You asked about the second to the last poem I read at the Irish Poetry Night in Bradford on Avon Thursday night, along with Matt, Carrie, Claire Crowther and Tim Liardet?
The poet was Brendan Kennelly and the poem was called Book. It was the last but one poem I read, and was followed by the very short Crow poem that I finished on:
CROW When I croak I half-lift one wing. Not bad for a tarry black laughed-at thing. It's as near as I get to harmony.
Who are you and what do you think you do when you sing?
All the poems I read at The George pub came from Familiar Strangers: New & Selected Poems 1960-2004 by Brendan Kennelly.
I couldn't track down the Book poem but here's a few sites about Brendan, and you can listen to him read his own poems at The Poetry Archive.
p.s. I thought Matt read really well, and it's always a good sign when I want a poet to read at least one more, but always better leaving the audience wanting more! ;-)
